Who is this programme for?

For working engineers (Bachelor's, CGPA 2.50+, or lower with experience and internal assessment) who want to specialise in electronic systems — IC design, embedded systems, or intelligent/instrumentation systems — without leaving their job, via 100% online delivery.

What will I learn, year by year?

5 core programmes (Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Modern Communication & Network Systems, Advanced Embedded Systems, Advanced Digital Systems Design, VLSI Systems Design), 3 university requirements (Research Methodology, Data Analytics, Project Management), and a two-part R&D Project. Students then choose one of three elective tracks (3 programmes each): Integrated Circuits System, Intelligent Systems, or Industrial Instrumentation Systems — with heavy use of System Verilog and Python throughout.

Where do graduates work? Name employers and roles (≤60 words)

Electronics Design Engineer, Embedded Systems Engineer, R&D Engineer, IoT Solutions Engineer, Hardware/Software Systems Integration Engineer, VLSI Design Engineer, ASIC/FPGA Design Engineer, IC Verification Engineer, AI/ML Engineer, Computer Vision Engineer, Instrumentation Engineer. No specific employers named — confirm with Department.

One thing that makes it different at UTP

Three distinct specialisation tracks (IC Systems, Intelligent Systems, Industrial Instrumentation), recently updated electives (Low Power VLSI, Advanced Digital Systems Design, System Verification), and heavy hands-on use of System Verilog and Python for digital/analog IC design.

The Research Behind It: Which area, centre and academics?

Not research-based (programmework programme), though it includes a two-part R&D Project. Programme philosophy: "train young graduates and professionals with advanced integrated circuit design and applications and entrepreneurship skills to enable them to perform R&D and commercialisation activities." Programme lead: AP Ts Dr Fawnizu Azmadi Hussin.

Cost & Funding: Which scholarships and aid apply to this programme?

GA is for full-time PhD research students only, so it does not apply to this programmework master's. Malaysian applicants can explore EPF withdrawal, external sponsorships and education financing, subject to the relevant provider's eligibility requirements.

Student Life: What should an applicant to this programme know?

ODL-specific: 100% online with self-instructional materials, minimum 8 hours of live online class per programme per semester, scheduled after working hours or weekends, with an online open-book final exam.
