Who is this programme for?
For school leavers who want to become future-ready civil engineers, choosing between offshore & renewable energy, digital resilience (BIM, AI, smart sensors), or environmental & sustainability engineering — with strong fundamentals and 7 months of real industrial training.
What will I learn, year by year?
Year 1: Engineering fundamentals — mathematics, mechanics, CAD, AI intro, and fluid mechanics.
Year 2: Hydraulics, environmental engineering, structural analysis, soil mechanics, sustainable concrete, and AI in civil engineering.
Year 3: Reinforced concrete & steel design, BIM, wastewater engineering, foundations, traffic engineering, then 7 months of Student Industrial Training.
Year 4: Integrated design projects, one of three specialisation pathways, GIS/LiDAR, final year project, and engineering economics.
Where do graduates work? Name employers and roles
Across infrastructure & construction, offshore & energy, digital infrastructure, water/environment, and consultancy roles (Civil, Structural, Offshore Structural, BIM, Environmental Engineer, and more). Named alumni employers: Gamuda, IJM, Aecom, DHI, PETRONAS, Shell, SLB, DNV, Technip, Petrofac, Petros, Sarawak Energy, MMC, MMHE, Jacobs, Ørsted, DHL, AWS, Airbus, Aerodyne, Subsea7 — across Malaysia, ASEAN, the Middle East, Europe, Oceania, and North America.
One thing that makes it different at UTP
Three professional pathways — Offshore & Renewable Energy Engineering, Digital Resilience Engineering (BIM, AI analytics, digital twins), and Environmental & Sustainability Engineering — plus 7 months of industrial training and industry-linked capstone projects.
The Research Behind It: Which area, centre and academics?
Not research-based (undergraduate programme), but Year 4 offers Core Specialisation electives across shared engineering tracks: Future Infrastructures & Digital Resilience, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Systems, Asset Integrity & Reliability, Offshore Engineering, Sustainability & Environmental Engineering, Energy Transformation, and Process Safety. Note: several of these (programme codes MGB/CGB/CBM) appear to be shared electives across multiple engineering programmes, not exclusive to Civil — worth confirming with the department which are core vs. open electives for this programme specifically.
Cost & Funding: Which scholarships and aid apply to this programme?
UTP financial-aid opportunities include YUTP Scholarship, YUTP Education Grant, YUTP Student Support Fund Bursary, TAZU and PTPTN, subject to eligibility and availability. Students may also explore external sponsorship opportunities listed by UTP.
Student Life: What should an applicant to this programme know?
Students should expect a combination of lectures, laboratory work, engineering projects, field exposure and industry-related activities. The programme also offers opportunities to develop digital skills through areas such as BIM, AI and IoT and to participate in student activities on UTP's campus.
Next Intake + Application Deadline
September intake.
Placement or internship route for this programme
7-month Student Industrial Training (SIT, Year 3) followed by a Student Industrial Project (SIP) — both explicitly listed as Core Industrial Internship credit (14 credit hours total).
