Qualification for Eac​​​​h Programme

i) Academic Requirement​

Entry Requirements – Postgraduate
Programme Qualification / Field Entry Requirements
Master Programme (by Research) Bachelor Degree Engineering
  • Candidates must hold a BSc Degree in Engineering/ Engineering Technology discipline with minimum CGPA 2.50/4.00 or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognised university.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree in Engineering/ Engineering Technology discipline with minimum CGPA 2.00 but below 2.50, can be admitted and must have 5 years working experience & pass UTP internal rigorous assessment.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree qualification from different discipline, must undergo pre-requisite courses in Engineering/ Engineering Technology.
Bachelor Degree Science & Social Science & Humanities
  • Candidates must hold a BSc Degree with minimum CGPA 2.50/4.00 or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognised university.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree with minimum CGPA 2.00 but below 2.50, can be admitted and must have 5 years working experience & pass UTP internal rigorous assessment.
Bachelor Degree Management
  • Candidates must hold a BSc Degree in Business Studies discipline with minimum CGPA 2.75/4.00, or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognised university.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree in Business Studies discipline with minimum CGPA 2.50 but below 2.75, can be admitted and must pass UTP internal rigorous assessment.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree in Business Studies discipline with minimum CGPA 2.00 but below 2.50, can be admitted and must have 5 years working experience & pass UTP internal rigorous assessment.
Bachelor Degree Information Technology / Information Systems
  • Candidates must hold a BSc Degree in Computing discipline with minimum CGPA 3.00/4.00, or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognised university.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree in Computing discipline with minimum CGPA 2.50 but below 3.00, can be admitted and must pass UTP internal rigorous assessment.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree in Computing discipline with minimum CGPA 2.00 but below 2.50, can be admitted and must have 5 years working experience & pass UTP internal rigorous assessment.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree qualification from different disciplines, must undergo pre-requisite courses in computing.

Master Programme (by Coursework & ODL) Bachelor Degree Engineering
  • Candidates must hold a BSc Degree in Engineering/ Engineering Technology discipline with minimum CGPA 2.50/4.00 or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognised university.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree in Engineering/ Engineering Technology discipline with minimum CGPA 2.00 but below 2.50, can be admitted and must have 5 years working experience & pass UTP internal rigorous assessment.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree qualification from different discipline, must undergo pre-requisite courses in Engineering/ Engineering Technology.
Bachelor Degree Petroleum Geoscience
  • Candidates must hold a BSc Degree with minimum CGPA 2.50/4.00 or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognised university.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree with minimum CGPA 2.00 but below 2.50, can be admitted and must have 5 years working experience & pass UTP internal rigorous assessment.
Bachelor Degree Business Administration (Energy Management)
  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor Degree with minimum CGPA 2.50/4.00, or equivalent qualifications from a recognised university.
  • Candidates with Bachelor Degree with minimum CGPA 2.00 but below 2.50, can be admitted, subject to passing UTP internal rigorous assessment.
  • Candidates with Bachelor Degree qualification from different discipline, must undergo pre-requisite courses in Business.
Bachelor Degree Applied Computing
  • Candidates must hold a BSc Degree in Computing discipline with minimum CGPA 2.75/4.00, or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognised university.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree in Computing discipline with minimum CGPA 2.50 but below 2.75, can be admitted and must pass UTP internal rigorous assessment.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree in Computing discipline with minimum CGPA 2.00 but below 2.50, can be admitted and must have 5 years working experience & pass UTP internal rigorous assessment.
  • Candidates with BSc Degree qualification from different disciplines, must undergo pre-requisite courses in computing.

PhD Programme Master Degree*
  • Candidates must hold a Master Degree* in the relevant field OR equivalent from a recognised university.
  • Candidates to enrol in Engineering/ Engineering Technology & Computing programmes but having qualification from different disciplines must undergo pre-requisite courses.
  • *Master degree must be equivalent to Malaysian Qualifications Framework, Level 7 Master’s Degree.
ii) English Requirement
Pass English requirement with a minimum score of:
  • Engineering Programmes –  IELTS – 5.0, TOEFL – 500
  • Science/PhD. in Management/PhD. in Social Science & Humanities Programmes – IELTS –            6.0,  TOEFL – 550
  • Information Technology / Information Systems Programmes – IELTS – 6.0, TOEFL – 550
 However, this requirement is waived if candidate;
  • ​have obtained Bachelor / Master or other relevant degree from Malaysian recognis​ed institution whereby all courses are fully conducted in English or;
  • a native of an English speaking countries or;
  • graduated from English speaking countries institutions​​ ​​
