Placement or internship route for this programme

For BSc (Hons) in Geoscience Semester 6 Students attend the SIIP briefing and pre-registration, subject to the required credit hours and prerequisite programmes stated in the programme handbook. Semester 7 — SIT Student Industrial Training Students begin their industry placement and gain practical experience in a real working environment. Semester 8 — SIP Student Industrial Project Students continue their industry placement and undertake an industry-related project. Total Duration: 7 Months SIT + SIP = 7-month Student Industrial Internship Programme (SIIP) Throughout the process, the Internship Coordinator guides students from placement preparation and company applications through to their internship completion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Geoscience is the study of the Earth — how it works, what lies beneath its surface, how its resources are formed and how natural processes shape our environment. It brings together geology, geophysics, data, technology and field observation to understand and solve real-world Earth-related challenges.

You will learn how to investigate the Earth, interpret geological and subsurface data, conduct fieldwork and apply technology to real-world problems. You will explore Energy Geoscience, Strategic Minerals, Geohazards and Earth Resources, while developing skills in AI, data analytics, geospatial technology and industry-standard software.

A Geoscience degree can take you across a wide range of industries and career pathways. Graduates can work in energy and resources, minerals and mining, environmental and sustainability, geospatial and mapping, engineering and infrastructure, consulting, technology and data, government and regulatory agencies, research and academia, as well as pursue further specialisation through postgraduate study.
